Tribute to Luigi Ghirri

The completed “piazza del Pavaglione” in Lugo – Tribute to Luigi Ghirri, has won the international S-ARCH AWARD 2018 in urban design category and has won the Honorable Mention and the Youth Award at the Gubbio Award 2018 edition too. The Award is one of the oldest Italian awards for interventions in historic centers.
They were pleased to share this result with the citizenship, the administration and the design group: STARTT, p’arc (Enrica Dall’Ara, team leader, Matteo Zamagni, Sara Angelini) and Paolo Rosetti. The intervention is the result of the urban renewal of the public courtyard of Pavaglione, a XVIII century porch enclosuring one of the most important silk market of Northern Italy, along the Via Emilia.
The courtyard is located in the centre of the city – on the site of the former roman fora and on the edge of the green field outside the castle. The roman foundation tracks, the cardus and decumanus, the medieval fairs greenfield and the XVIII century boundary are used as ready-made tools to define the big open space: the groundfloor is graffitoed along the historical tracks.
The open space for events and the shady one for everyday sociability are separated by the cardus; new ripples on the pavement creates soft spaces for free time and relax. The location and project of the urban furniture is designed to create separate settings – microscapes – for everyday life.
This set of tracks – contemporary or coming from history – disappears in the night and makes way for surreal light presences emerging in the fog: a tribute to the work of the Italian photographer Luigi Ghirri along the Via Emilia. The engravings in the plane become lighting signs, according to the lesson of the “Profilo delle nuvole”.

STARTT

STARTT

STARTT – studio of architecture and territorial transformations – works in the field of architecture, urban design, landscape and cultural spaces. Founded by architects Simone Capra, Claudio Castaldo and Dario Scaravelli, STARTT thinks of architecture as part of the transformation of the territory and stands out for its tailor-made approach to design, which guarantees “tailor-made” responses to different scales, programmes and degrees of complexity. STARTT’s projects range from the architectural scale to the urban and landscape dimensions; they aim to increase the quality of the places we live in by making the material and immaterial values of a territory perceptible. This attitude is measured today by the challenges of urban regeneration and the response to environmental, economic and social urgencies

p'arc

p'arc

p’arc, a studio founded in 2001 by Enrica Dall’Ara, deals with landscape design at all scales and in different contexts – urban, peri-urban and rural – following each phase of the design process: from landscape planning to detailed design of parks, gardens, urban open spaces and equipment, including artistic and technical works supervision. p’arc brings together site analysis and aesthetic research, in order to meet practical needs and seize socioeconomic opportunities while preserving art intention in design.
