Oasis Curve

In Dubai, a new urban installation, named Oasis Curve, blends natural elements with modern urban design. Inspired by the flowing shapes of waves and the gentle curves of desert sands, Oasis Curve creates a serene yet striking visual presence in the district. This installation is a celebration of the harmonious interaction between nature and urban life, offering a peaceful and engaging experience for all who visit.

The installation features 67 columns of varying heights arranged in a curvilinear pattern: a tribute to Dubai’s genuine landscape, inspired by the fluidity of the sea and the solidity of the sand. By integrating these elements, the installation embodies a sense of dynamic equilibrium, reflecting the balance between natural forces and human creativity.

The curvy layout invites visitors to move through it, offering multiple perspectives and experiences. As one walks through the installation, the varying heights and angles of the columns create a dynamic interplay. Located in a prominent public space within the Dubai Design District, the installation stands out as both an artistic landmark and a welcoming plaza. Its fluid design offers a striking contrast to the geometric rigidity of the surrounding urban structures, adding visual and experiential diversity to the area. The open spaces between the columns facilitate free movement and interaction, fostering social engagement and moments of contemplation.

Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the installation is also concerned with functionality. The varying heights of the columns create versatile spaces for people of all ages. Children can use the lower columns as playful elements, climbing and exploring them, while adults can find the taller columns suitable for seating, offering a place to hang out. This multifunctional aspect ensures the installation is not only visually striking but also actively used by the community, fostering interaction and engagement.

Some of the columns feature diamond-shaped motifs inspired by traditional Islamic geometric patterns, with reflective mirrors in some to create captivating light and reflections. These detailed motifs are a tribute to the region’s rich architectural heritage, symbolizing the integration of cultural elements with contemporary design. This installation, commissioned by Jotun Paint Company, showcases their Canvas 2024 color design. After extensive color research, a harmonious palette was selected, resulting in a captivating and dynamic visual experience that enhances the installation’s aesthetic and creates a more engaging and stimulating space for visitors.

Sunlight flows on the columns and creates a light and shadow hide-and-seek effect, further emphasizing the organic inspiration of the installation. At night, LED lighting transforms the installation into a luminous sculpture, highlighting its form and casting gentle shadows that mimic the natural play of moonlight on waves and sand.

Sustainability is a core principle of the concept. The installation utilizes eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient LED lighting, ensuring minimal environmental impact while maximizing aesthetic appeal. By incorporating sustainable practices, the installation promotes environmental responsibility and awareness.
